On June 23rd, Vera House shared in a presentation to over 80 local judges and court personnel about the issue of elder abuse. The Hon. James C. Tormey, III, the District Administrative Judge for New York’s 5th Judicial District offered opening remarks and then the Hon. Deborah A. Kaplan, the Statewide Coordinating Judge for Family Violence Cases shared her perspective on the importance of the court system being accessible for older adults. Jenny Hicks, Project Coordinator of the Abuse in Later Life program at Vera House then provided an overview of the issue of elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.
