Vera House SANE Coordinator Anne Galloway to be Awarded 2016 Front Line Forensic Nurse of the Year Award!

The International Association of Forensic Nurses will award our very own Anne Galloway the Front Line Forensic Nurse of the Year Award for 2016!  This award recognizes individuals who provide exceptional direct patient care in the forensic setting.

Anne oversees all aspects of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program (SANE), including grant writing, clinical oversight, nurse recruitment, education, and clinical care for patients. As the SANE Program Coordinator for the past 17 years, Anne has taught and mentored many SANE nurses. Anne has also developed education and provided training for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and the Sexual Assault Volunteer Advocates and crisis response team for Vera House. Since March 1999, Anne has been the Nurse Manager for Upstate University Hospital’s Child Abuse Referral and Evaluation (CARE) Clinic Program.  In this capacity, she works directly with abused children assisting in the examinations of children for physical and/or sexual abuse, including preparation of the child for the exam, serves as the initial contact for the parents/caregivers, and confers with referring agencies. Anne also served on the SAFE/SANE Task Force for the Child Abuse Medical Provider Program (CHAMP), is Chair of the SANE Advisory Committee, and member of the Child Abuse Response Team (CART).

Colleagues working with Anne are often impressed by her caring, compassionate, calm, presence during difficult situations. Anne’s mentorship and leadership qualities shine through in her role as SANE Coordinator. In her roles of SANE Program Coordinator, CARE Nurse Manager, and SAFE Program Director, Anne collaborates with many professionals and community agencies concerned with victims of assault, including law enforcement, child protective services, Vera House, the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, and the McMahon/ Ryan Child Advocacy Center providing forensic nursing excellence throughout our community.
