Shakina K. Bowman joined the Vera House family in May as our Director of Shelter Services. Shakina will provide oversight, program supervision and leadership for our shelter program and staff.
Prior to coming to Vera House, Shakina served as Director of Youth Services for the Center for Community Alternatives and says, "I have watched the great work that Vera House does for years. It’s exciting to finally be a part of an agency whose vision is a world free of violence and abuse – right up my alley!"
In her free time, Shakina is a member of The Tubman Troupe and recently starred as Lady in Orange in the Choreopoem Stage Play, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered When the Rainbow Is Not Enough.”
